Theatre Production

Open to 7th & 8th Grade (course can be repeated - by audition ONLY

You must have taken, or be currently enrolled, in Theatre Experience to audition for this course. 

Each year, the First Avenue Theatre Company will produce one full-length, published play and one full-length, published musical. Approximately 60 students (30 each semester) will have the opportunity to continue their exploration of the world of theatre in either the first or second semester through the Theatre Production course. This course is designed to emphasize all aspects of public performance, in-depth acting technique, and technical design work. In-depth play and character analysis, advanced techniques in acting and improvisation will be emphasized throughout the course of the year. Students will be required to attend after school and weekend rehearsals as well as perform in the semester’s production.

Theatre Workshop

Open to 7th & 8th Grade (course can be repeated - no audition/prerequisite required) 

This is a devised theatre course where students will learn to create their own theatrical work. Students will work on many different kinds of projects:  both original and script based, long term and short term, group and individual. Theatre Workshop students will perform at one public evening performance. This class will also be the company members for our Story Wizards group which turns writing from elementary school students in Arcadia Unified into small devised pieces that we will perform at the elementary school.

Theatre Experience

Open to 7th & 8th Grade (not repeatable - no audition/prerequisite required) 

This is a beginning course in theatre. Subjects studied include: theatre vocabulary, pantomime, voice, body, movement, improvisation, puppetry, acting styles and direction. This course will also give a student introductory knowledge of technical theatre and design including:  costumes, sets, props, sound, lighting, and special effects. Theatre attendance at a single performance (at FA or in the community) will be required but no after school rehearsal hours or public performances will take place in this course.

6th Grade Wheel: Theatre

All 6th Grade Students will take this course (not-repeatable - no audition required)

This course is a part of the First Avenue Middle School 6th Grade Wheel which gives all 6th grade students an opportunity to explore four different electives over the course of the school year. Students will engage in theatre basics, learn public speaking skills, play theatre games, and develop several storytelling in-class performances. This class is designed to build confidence and excite students about participating in future FATC opportunities. No after school rehearsal hours, homework, or public performances will take place in this course.
